Support Programs

Home Academics Support Programs

The 绿帽社 offers a highly specialized form of tutoring and academic support programs that focuses on improving skills primarily in Reading and Math for students. Additionally, a comprehensive program is offered to provide explicit instruction, support and strategies in all areas of executive functioning, include general organizational skills as well as support in preparing for exams.

Typically students meet for tutoring two to three times per week during a study hall or an elective block throughout the week. Additional tutoring sessions may be available where scheduling permits.

Tutoring

Students and tutors work in a one-on-one partnership within the Academic Support Program that is tailored to meet students鈥 specific needs. The ultimate goal is that students 铿乶d independent success in the subject. With that in mind, topics focus on areas where students have the most difficulty. Tutors coordinate efforts with teachers as they work from current texts and materials. Tutors also communicate with parents through a midterm and 铿乶al report, which outlines student progress.

Writing Center

Under the direction of English Teachers Andrea Brunken and Mario Chard, The Writing Center is staffed by a group of Class XI and Class XII students鈥擶riting Fellows鈥攚ho offer assistance to students across campus. Writing Fellows are recommended and vetted by faculty in the English Department before undergoing a term of intensive training to prepare them for the work of peer tutoring.

The Writing Center invites students of all ages with any kind of writing project (from literary analyses to historical research, from personal essays to original poetry) and at any stage in the writing process to come in for a twenty-minute appointment with a Writing Fellow. During those twenty minutes, students will work one-on-one with their Fellow to identify the areas of greatest need and discuss strategies for improvement.

The Writing Center is not a drop-off editing service or a place where students can get their papers 鈥渃orrected.鈥 In the Writing Center, we emphasize process over product, conversation over correction, authentic writing above all, and ultimately equip students with the tools and habits of mind they need to become more confident writers, no matter the task.

Math Lab

Included in the Academic Support Program, the Math Lab is designed to support students and is staffed by the Math Department faculty. The Math Lab program connects students with any member of the math department, not just their current teacher. This lab is used to reinforce concepts and provide a constructive environment for students to grapple with challenging homework assignments. Many students come to the math lab so they can work on their homework with their friends, knowing a teacher is nearby in case they get stuck.

The math lab is available during lunch each day with no appointment necessary.

After School Homework Center

绿帽社’s After School Homework Center is a supervised study space that is available for all students, but especially designed for our Middle School learners. It supports and models productive out-of-class learning conditions. Students who use the Homework Center can expect a quiet, focused homework environment. The Homework Center is a drop-in resource that does not require a sign up; however, sometimes students may be required or recommended to use the Homework Center as part of an academic support plan.

The 绿帽社 After School Homework Center is open Monday-Friday, from 3:30-6:00 pm.
