WOMEN’S TENNIS:

Congratulations to the 2021 Women’s Tennis Team for a great season that ended with a strong showing at the region and state tournaments. Senior Noelle K. led the team in 1st singles and was the runner up in the state tournament, and other team members also played their best tennis at the end of the season and helped ÂÌñÉç finish 3rd in our region and 8th in the state 1A-3A classification. 

We had our largest group of seniors in team history this year. Special thanks to Noelle K., Bailey N., Audrie J., Megan W., Michele G. , Lexi P., and Xiomara Z. (all Class of â€™22) for your leadership and contributions to ÂÌñÉç tennis. We are excited for future seasons but very sad to see them go.

MEN’S GOLF:

The 2021 Men’s Golf Team enjoyed a successful season. They finished 2nd in Region 17 competition, behind Rowland Hall. At the 2A State Tournament, held at the Roosevelt Golf Course, the team qualified for the second day of the tournament. They ultimately finished 6th out of a field of 15 teams. Golfers competing at the State Tournament were Carson R. ’23, Cole D. ’24, Daniel J. ’22, Kaden J. ’23, Dawson J. ’22 and Josh L. ’23.

Individually, Carson and Cole finished in the top 10 in Region 17 competition. Carson finished 2nd and Cole finished 8th. Carson received a medal for finishing in the top 3.

At the 2A State Tournament, Carson finished T2nd overall. Cole 39th, Josh T42nd, Dawson T44th, Kaden 55th and Daniel 57th. Again, Carson received a medal for finishing in the top 10. Although the All-State Teams have yet to be officially announced, Carson will earn 1st-Team All-State Honors, while Cole has an outside chance of earning Honorable Mention Honors.

In addition, as a result of his exceptional play, Carson has been invited to the 2022 High School Golf National Invitational to be held at the Pinehurst Resort next July. Congratulations, Carson!!

Congratulations to all who were part of the 2021 Men’s Golf Team. We had a fine season and look forward to next year. In closing, we say farewell to our two seniors, Dawson and Daniel. We wish you well in all your future endeavors.

WOMEN’S SOCCER:

The 2021 Ravens Women’s soccer team had a fantastic season and are the 2A State Champions! The team went 15-2 this season with a home record of 6-1 and an away record of 6-1. Our most wins in a row included a 5-game win streak. All 24 players combined for a total of 14,320 Varsity game minutes, which is roughly 240 hours of soccer games between August and now (not including practices, travel, warm-up or JV games). They scored 115 goals for and had 26 goals against.In the 3 rounds of the state tournament, they had 20 goals for and 3 against. We set a new record and are now the second-most state championship-winning women’s soccer program in all of Utah (shout-out to Tim Dolbin and Kent Hercules) with 7 state titles. In first place is Alta with 8…and right behind us is Rowland Hall with 6. Seven C. ’22 set a new state record for goals in a season – she had 71, and the previous title holder had 68 in 1989. Seven also set a new state record for most goals in a game with 9. Speaking of Seven, she had all 4 goals in the championship game, and there were 7 goals total. The fact that this was our 7th championship is also fate! In addition to the soccer piece, the team enjoyed an early-August bonding trip to Heber as well as a traditional community service event with our longtime partner organization, For the Kids. This season, each player epitomized what it means to be a team and their selfless efforts helped us win as a collective.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL:

The 2021 season for US Volleyball was such a success. After not being able to have a 2020 season due to COVID, it was exciting to hear the balls bouncing and girls cheering once again in the East Gym. In region play, the team finished second with an 8-2 record. After participating in a tournament with 4, 5, and 6A schools in the valley in August as well as participating in a tournament in Evanston, Wyoming, the team had an overall record of 12-18. 

The team hosted a Pink Game this year in honor of a team mom from past seasons, Kate James. It was an honor to host such a significant event and the team raised about $500 to donate to Huntsman Cancer Institute. They also participated in a service project where they wrote supportive notes and posted them all in the James’s home. 

On October 13, the team played San Juan High School for the first round of state and won in three sets. On October 29 they played Kanab High School and lost but turned around and played Maeser Prep for the second time this season and won. On the October 30, the team played Enterprise but lost. Despite the loss, they learned and grew mentally, emotionally and physically. 

Caroline L., Senior Outside hitter is ranked 11th in 2A in the state for kills. Over the season she had 662 hit attempts and she had 221 total kills out of those swings. Caroline was a captain this year and was such an incredible leader. 

Congratulations for such an amazing season and all that participated in the 2021 US Women’s Volleyball Team.

CO-ED CROSS COUNTRY:

This fall, each individual on the cross country team improved immensely from last season. We had a great mix of young talent seeing high school cross country for the first time and seniors who performed consistently well at each meet. At the Region meet in Wheeler Farm, we repeated as 2nd place finishers behind Rowland Hall to make the State Championships. Roman S. ’22 placed 3rd, Kiran R. ’25 placed 4th, Connor G. ’25 placed 12th and Luke P. ’24 placed 14th. Mateusz S. ’22 and Dylan D. ’25 rounded out the top six with 17th and 18th place finishes. On the girls side, we didn’t have a full team. But they didn’t lack motivation. Lydia W. ’22 placed 11th at Region, qualifying for State individually for the first time as a senior. Elizabeth M. ’22 and Christine P. ’22 were close behind at 14th and 16th. At the State Championships, it was great to see our young guys get some early experience to prepare them for the years to come. Our seniors enjoyed one final time to race, capping off their high school career. I can’t wait to see what the future brings for ÂÌñÉç XC!

CO-ED CREW:

Fall of 2021 was a great season of growth for ÂÌñÉç Crew. In the past 3 terms of rowing there has been only one scrimmage for the team and two regattas for a select few. This Fall will be the first time we have been back to normal since COVID suspended most rowing activities. With such a lack of recent racing experience, the team has mostly novice level rowers who are competing for their first time.

30 young men and 7 young women signed up for rowing which is one of the bigger teams in recent memory. With such large numbers, the team has been broken down into two groups. The more experienced kids were in smaller boats sculling (rowing with 2 oars) and the more novice-like boys were in the bigger boats sweeping (rowing with one oar). Those two groups were able to practice together and compete together at various regattas.

Our first race was local, racing Utah Crew, Park City Rowing, and Lake Las Vegas at the Jordanelle Reservoir. The regatta events were varied, but overall ÂÌñÉç was not only the biggest team, but the more successful team at the event with several wins. Next regatta was Head of the Oklahoma in Oklahoma City with most competition coming from the southern Midwest and California. Our novice men did extremely well by winning the 8+ and 4+ events. The experienced scullers did well with mostly top 10 finishes and the men’s double getting 2nd in their race. The last race of the season was the Portland Fall Classic racing teams mostly from the Pacific Northwest. The experienced scullers did well with the men going 3rd and 4th in the double and the women’s double winning their event. The wind picked up and the regatta was eventually canceled before we could see the novices race in their events. Which was an unfortunate way to end the season.

With only a few seniors and a majority of lower classmen on the team, the future looks good for ÂÌñÉç Crew.
