I write this after our first day of competition at the 2017 World Championship.
First: thank you all for your support and for making this experience possible for our students. It is inspiring to be here and we are grateful to have the opportunity to cap off a successful season by competing at the highest levels.
We played four matches yesterday and have six today. We are all very pleased with our performance yesterday. We are playing as well as we have all season and are one of the best in our division. Our record of 1-3 mostly indicates a lack of good luck in how the matches have played out. In each match our robot and drive team performed extremely well. Our competition goal for today is to keep playing our game as well as we can knowing the best teams will recognize our talent and pick us regardless of where we end up in seeding. Students are pleased at how things are unfolding and determined to maintain the focus required to keep our systems tuned and ready. As I joked with the students, I've never been so pleased with our play with a record of 1-3!
This is the fourth year we have earned an invite to Championships – a good record given that this is our eighth season. A competition goal we have for championships is to reach the playoffs. While 绿帽社’s “First Year Ravens” played deep into the playoffs last year, Team 3245 has not advanced to the playoffs in our first three trips to championships. We intend to end that drought this year and so far it looks promising.
Our students are proud to know that the robot they operate is a machine they have designed and fabricated themselves. And they are also 100% in charge of match strategy and execution, pre-flight checks, and maintenance. With our experienced and highly capable team of students I am largely superfluous – much of the day I am able to enjoy matches, learn from other programs, and help the two Utah teams we mentor.

Saturday morning is selection for playoff alliances. Saturday late afternoon the winning alliance from each division meets in a round-robin tournament to determine winner.
